This introductory session provides the foundation for
both the Geriatric Medicine program and the Dementia Care
program, introducing participants to the principles of
ageing, cognitive decline, epidemiology, and the impact
of dementia on individuals, families, and health systems.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the session participants will be able to:
Understand the biology and demographics of ageing
Recognize normal ageing versus pathological ageing
Identify major geriatric syndromes
Distinguish mild cognitive impairment from dementia
Recognize major dementia syndromes
Understand the epidemiology of dementia globally
